Scotia man charged with DWI in deadly crash

A Scotia man is facing DWI and vehicular manslaughter charges after a deadly crash in Schenectady.

A Scotia man has been charged with vehicular manslaughter after a drunken driving crash that killed a woman in Schenectady on Saturday.

Police responded to the 800 block of Eastern Avenue near Lomasney Avenue at about 8:52 p.m. for multiple reports of a serious motor vehicle crash. After arriving, officers found a vehicle that had crashed into an unoccupied parked car.

The driver, later identified as 31-year-old Gregory Mitchell, was found near the vehicle. The passenger was trapped inside the burning vehicle. The Schenectady Fire Department arrived to put out the fire.

The victim was identified as 47-year-old Scotia resident Jacqueline McCole.

Mitchell was arrested and charged with DWI and vehicular manslaughter. He is currently in custody awaiting arraignment at Albany Medical Center.

The Schenectady County Crash Reconstruction team responded to reconstruct the scene.
