Fifteen families came out to shop with a cop today at Crossgates Mall.

These families are nominated on WGNA’s website. This year, the station partnered with the group Blue Friday to help children in need to make sure they have a happy holiday.

Today, those families were shopping at the mall for Christmas presents with local police officers. Pat Fox, President of Blue Friday of NY, explained why this event is so important:

“There’s a lot of negativity in regards to police and our goal is to have positive interaction with the community, and the police, and the young kids. To let them know that we’re not the bad guys. We’re there to help them.”

This was the biggest turnout they’ve had in the seven years they’ve done the “Shop with a Cop” event.
