Shots were fired inside a hotel near Crossgates Mall on Friday morning and a suspect is now charged with attempted murder.

Police were called to the Homewood Suites/Tru Hotel on Western Avenue for a shots fired call. When Guilderland Police arrived, the gunshots were coming from the fifth floor, they said. Hotel guests were evacuated.

Chandler McCray, 33, was arraigned in court just hours after the incident. He was wearing handcuffs around his ankles and wrists.

McCray was shooting in his room while officers were in the hallway, according to police. He was arrested after a nearly two-hour standoff.

Several agencies responded, but Guilderland Police is taking the lead in the investigation.

McCray was charged with attempted murder of a police officer, along with several other charges.

McCray’s attorney pleaded not guilty on his behalf.

While signing paperwork, McCray was stomping and putting his hands in his face.

McCray is going to be held without bail in the Albany County Jail. The judge also ordered a mental health evaluation. Before the arraignment started, McCray was yelling that he needs his medication. His attorney also asked the judge if McCray could be evaluated to get medication.

No injuries were reported.
