Nearly one million people visited New York state parks from April 6 to April 9. That’s a 45% increase in attendance compared with 2023, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Friday.

More than 10,000 visitors attended special viewing events at New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority facilities, including at Whiteface Mountain, Gore Mountain and at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid. 
Twelve state parks reached full capacity on April 8, the state said.

The New York State Thruway Authority and Department of Transportation reported significant increases in vehicle traffic with the New York State Thruway, recording more than 5.5 million toll transactions. The peak day was on Tuesday – the day after the eclipse.
