South Glens Falls woman rescued after slipping off Essex County mountain in pouring rain
A South Glens Falls woman is lucky to be alive after a big scare while hiking in pouring rain in Essex County.
The 46-year-old woman slipped and fell down South Dix Mountain around 5:30 p.m. last Tuesday, Dec. 26. She hit snow and a rockslide along the way, according to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
The woman grabbed onto a spruce tree, which prevented her from going over a cliff, and called 911.
Rescuers pinned her coordinates and finally got to her around 1:30 the next morning.
They gave her food, warm liquids and clothing, and guided ger back to her car about an hour before sunrise.
