Springfield man gets prison time for 2017 home invasion in North Adams

A Springfield man was sentenced on Tuesday to 2 ½ years in prison for a September 2017 home invasion and assault.

Arthur McCowan, 35, pleaded guilty in Berkshire Superior Court to two counts of assault and battery with a deadly weapon and one count home invasion.

McCowan and two other people broke into a house at 153 State St. in North Adams in search of drugs, investigators said. They assaulted the resident inside, kicking the victim with their foot and stabbing the person multiple times, the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office said.

McCowan received 2 ½ years in prison on the one assault charge and probation on the other two.

Another defendant was previously sentenced to eight to 10 years in prison.
