State parks, historic sites see record attendance in 2023
State parks, historic sites, campgrounds and trails had record attendance in 2023.
Total visits statewide were up to a total of 84.1 million, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Wednesday. That’s an increase of nearly 4.7 million
Last year was the 11th consecutive annual increase in park attendance. Over the last two decades, it has increased nearly 60%.
“These numbers reflect New Yorkers’ strong demand and appreciation for places to swim, hike, camp, gather with friends and family, and enjoy safe, healthy recreation,” Hochul said in a statement. “As we celebrate the New York State Park Centennial this year, my administration is committed to keeping this progress going to ensure New Yorkers have access to world-class recreational facilities for years to come.”
