State launches campaign to halt bridge strikes

The state Department of Transportation has released a humorous video as part of its campaign to prevent bridge strikes.

The video shows a worker with a construction hard hat hitting a garage door that is not high enough for him to enter without striking his head.

This is part of DOT and State Police’s enforcement campaign to reduce bridge strikes like the ongoing issue with the Glenridge Road bridge in Glenville.

There were a combined 808 reported bridge strikes throughout the state.

Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara said a new bill has been signed into law addressing the ongoing issue of collisions with bridges. The bill requires the state Department of Transportation to report vital information about bridge collisions, locations, damage, repairs and recommendations to prevent future collisions. This will help develop solutions, enhance safety features and make plans to avoid this from happening.
