State Police write over 4,000 tickets statewide for distracted driving
New York State Police issued 4,056 tickets for cell phone use and texting during its crackdown on distracted driving.
The enforcement detail took place from April 1 through April 8 and targeted drivers using electronic devices behind the wheel. There were nearly 22,000 total tickets for vehicle and traffic violations.
In Troop G, which covers the Capital Region, troopers wrote 153 tickets for cell phone use, 299 for texting. The issued a total of 1,667 tickets for vehicle and traffic violations.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 3,308 people were killed in crashes caused by distracted driving in 2022.
