State Senate passes bill to make polluters pay for climate change

The New York State Senate has passed a bill that would put the cost of climate change on New York’s biggest polluters.

The Climate Change Superfund Act is now heading to the New York State Assembly for a vote.

The act would raise $3 billion a year by asking polluters to pay for climate costs. That dedicated funding would last for 25 years.

Taxpayers last year paid more than $2 billion for climate repair efforts, according to advocates.
