State senator urges state to boost Medicaid reimbursement to save nursing home
Sen. Dan Stec is weighing in the potential closure of a nursing home in his district.
NewsChannel 13 reported earlier this week that the Elderwood Nursing Home facility in North Creek may close because of higher expenses due to inflation and a lack of funding due to a low Medicaid reimbursement rate.
Stec, R-Queensbury, said he has been in regular contact with nursing home staff and state health officials to make sure the facility has the support that it needs.
“But this current issue is indicative of a larger crisis plaguing our state and rural communities in particular. Due to poor Medicaid reimbursement rates, hospitals and nursing homes across New York have been forced to decrease services or permanently close. This needs to be remedied in the impending state budget,” Stec said in a statement.
“If the governor and Democrat leadership can find billions to pay for sanctuary city policies and services to illegal immigrants, they can absolutely allocate resources to support our seniors and non-profit nursing homes and health care facilities. This is the time to make a meaningful commitment by increasing the Medicaid reimbursement rates and giving health care facilities the support they need to provide the compassionate care our seniors deserve,” Stec went on to say.
