Rep. Elise Stefanik says she’s heartbroken over the death of Kaylin Gillis.
The 20-year-old Schuylerville woman was killed Saturday when a car she was riding in turned into the wrong driveway in Hebron. The homeowner is accused of firing two shots at the car, killing Gillis.
“My heart breaks for the tragedy of the loss of Kaylin Gillis’ young life and for her beloved family and friends at this unimaginably difficult time,” Stefanik said in a statement.
Stefanik, who also lives in Schuylerville, represents the district where Gillis was killed.
“The entire Schuylerville community mourns this senseless loss of precious life taken far too soon,” she said.
Gillis graduated from Schuylerville High School in 2021.
“We fully support law enforcement’s investigative efforts to ensure justice is served,” Stefanik’s statement concluded.
Kevin Monahan, 65, is charged with second-degree murder. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on Sunday.
