Stephentown man accused of stealing $23,000+ by not doing construction work

A Stephentown man is accused of stealing more than $20,000 for claiming to buy materials he never bought.

Robert Thomas, 35, was arrested by state police.

He is facing grand larceny and forgery charges.

Thomas is accused of running a construction company called MZX Construction.

He allegedly received payment from the victim in May 2021 and agreed to do home improvement work.

Thomas is accused of showing a fake receipt to the victim last April.
By March of this year, the victim paid Thomas more than $23,000, state police said.
