Colonie’s police chief is retiring in January, and his successor has already been picked.

Chief Michael Woods spent 32 years in the department and 2 ½ years as chief.

Deputy Chief James Gerace has been nominated to take over the role.

He will need to be confirmed by the town board at a meeting this Thursday, Dec. 21.
