“Sure enough, it was a moose!” residents describe seeing a moose in their neighborhood

Moose on the loose!

One moose is becoming popular around the Capital Region. There have been several sightings of the moose.

An out-of-place moose has everyone wondering if they are going to spot it.

Several viewers sent newschannel13 pictures of the moose sightings in East Greenbush. Two people in Troy caught the moose on video from a safe distance.

“I thought it was a small pony, maybe, or a horse or something walking down the sidewalk. I look a little closer. It looked odd. I got up and started walking, sure enough, it was a moose,” Justin Tasselmyer said.

Tasselmyer said he just finished mowing the lawn at his childhood home on Summit Avenue in Troy on Saturday. All of a sudden, he looks over and can’t believe what’s walking down the street.

“My grandmother actually saw a moose or thought she saw a moose about a decade ago. We all thought she was crazy but I guess it’s not as crazy as we thought it was.”

Just a few doors down from Tasselmyer, a woman narrowly missed seeing the moose in person.

“We checked our cameras and there it was,” Lindsay Mele said.

The moose walked right on Mele’s front lawn! Shortly after she was finished doing yard work.

“I never would have imagined that I’d see a moose in my neighborhood, let alone my front yard,” she said.

Mele and Tasselmyer said it’s not uncommon to see wildlife in their neighborhood, but they never thought a moose would show up!

“There is a nature trail right behind my house. It leads from here all the way to North Troy through Oakwood Cemetery. Lots of trails and there’s a waterfall back there and a creek. It’s very beautiful,” Mele said.

East Greenbush Police are also letting residents know how to stay safe if you see the moose. On Facebook, the police department wrote:

“EGPD wants to advise you that there is a Moose wandering around East
Greenbush, this particular one was spotted in the area of Patroon Ln.

This may be news to some, but PLEASE DO NOT INTERACT with the moose. This
includes but is not limited to: feeding it, petting
it or taking selfies with it. This is a WILD animal and it deserves
respect and its space.

ENCON has been notified and they are not doing anything special to divert
the Moose movements. Remember wild animals live here also!”
