Survivor of deadly helicopter crash makes progress with recovery

Jacob Pratt from Rensselaer survived a helicopter crash earlier this month that killed two other soldiers from the Capital Region. He's still recovering at a Texas hospital.

Jacob Pratt from Rensselaer is still in the hospital in Texas, after surviving a military helicopter crash on the U.S.-Mexico border.

Two other Capital Region service members – Casey Frankoski and John Grassia III – were killed in that crash.

Pratt is awake and aware, according to an update posted on the GoFundMe page.

His family thanked everyone for their support and prayers.

A GoFundMe for his family has already raised $108,000 to help with his care. The national guardsman was alert, but still needed help breathing, his family said last week.

Pratt attended Rensselaer High School before his service. He was the aircraft crew chief on board that helicopter.
