Suspect arrested in Bennington homicide

Bennington police have arrested the suspect in last week’s homicide on Pleasant Street.

Raul Cardona is in custody.

Police tell NewsChannel 13 Cardona turned himself in to police Monday and was charged with second-degree murder.

This search has been going on for days.

Patrick Mullinex was shot to death the morning of August 3 on Pleasant Street in Bennington, Vermont.

Police quickly zeroed in on Cardona as a suspect. He is from the Springfield, Massachusetts, area, and investigators thought he may have been headed back to Massachusetts.

In the days that followed, Bennington police warned the public to be on the lookout for the homicide suspect, and said he is considered armed and dangerous.

Last week, NewsChannel 13 learned new information about the victim, that Mullinex was named as one of four suspects in a kidnapping and assault, according to Vermont State Police.

Police are looking into if this murder and the kidnapping case are connected.
