The family of a Shaker High sophomore shot and killed in downtown Albany is raising money to help local students follow the path she had been on.

Destiny had dreams of becoming a dermatologist. Her family now hopes the My Destiny Scholarship Foundation will help other students pay for their books, living expenses or tuition to be able to accomplish what Destiny had hoped to do.

Each student who receives the scholarship will get $500.

Wednesday night, three high school students were gifted with scholarships to help with furthering their education at an event at Glennpeter Jewelers in Colonie. The jewelry company surprised the family and gifted an additional $500 scholarship for another promising local teenager.

Destiny Greene was killed in 2021 while sitting in a car as a botched robbery unfolded. Police have said she was not the target of the shooting. It was the end of her sophomore year in high school, and she would have been graduating this year.
