Stewart’s Shops donates $1 million from Holiday Match
Stewart’s Shops just put checks in the mail for nearly 2,000 non-profits. This is money collected through its Holiday Match. From Thanksgiving through Christmas, customers at Stewart’s Shops donated more than $1 million to the program – which Stewart’s matched. That money is now on its way to charities in 32 counties.
National cheerleading competition
High school cheerleaders will be in the spotlight this weekend as teams across the country face off in the National Cheerleaders Association All-Star Competition.
Judges will rank the best stunt, best jump and best showmanship. The competition is at the Albany Capital Center this Saturday.
Importance of healthy breakfast
This is “National School Breakfast Week” – a time to raise awareness about the importance of making sure children get a healthy and filling meal to start their day. At Forts Ferry Elementary School in the North Colonie District, New York Giants Running Back Matt Breida will talk about different ways to combat hunger. Things like breakfast in the classroom and grab and go breakfast for students. Breida will join the State Department of AG and Markets, along with the superintendent and food services director of the North Colonie District.
Martial Arts Expo
The International Martial Arts Expo is coming to Lake George this weekend. The keynote speaker is the well-known Benny “The Jet” Urquidez who worked alongside actor Jackie Chan. The expo is at the Holiday Inn in Lake George on Friday and Saturday.
Telling women’s stories
Wednesday, March 8 marked International Women’s Day – a part of Women’s History Month. As part of this celebration, the Albany County Legislature was hosting an event at the county office building called “Women Who Tell Our Stories.” NewsChannel 13’s Elaine Houston was one of four women featured.
