Three Capital Region school districts holding budget revotes
Three Capital Region school districts are holding budget revotes Tuesday after their original spending plans were defeated at the polls last month.
Voters will head to the polls in Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Northville and Salem.
Berne-Knox-Westerlo did not make any changes to its $26.35 million budget. It contains a proposed tax levy increase of 5.09% tax increase, which is above the district’s tax cap of 4.35%. This requires a supermajority of 60% plus one vote to be approved. It fell short the first time around with almost 59%.
Northville is also seeking approval for a revised $14.71 million budget. They reduced spending by $212,000 to get under the 3.68% tax cap.
Salem also trimmed $125,000 worth of expenses to trim its budget to around $17.9 million and reduce the tax levy increase to 2.9%, which is at the district’s cap.
