Police: Unsafe speed caused tractor-trailer crash on Thruway Exit 27

The westbound ramp to Exit 27 of the Thruway in Amsterdam is back open after a tractor-trailer crash Thursday that spilled hydrogen peroxide.

The crash happened just before 5:30 p.m. A 2024 International Harvester driven by 38-year-old Giancarlo Alonzo Rivera, of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, was traveling south on Route 30, when he lost control due to unsafe speed, State Police said.

The tractor-trailer rolled on its side at the intersection entrance to the Thruway.

The ramp was closed for several hours for cleanup. There was no risk to the public.

The driver has minor injuries, investigators said.
