Award-winning horse trainer Chad Brown is facing domestic violence-related charges in Saratoga Springs.

Brown, a native of Mechanicville and four-time Eclipse Award winner, appeared in Saratoga City Court this morning for arraignment on a charge of criminal obstruction of breathing.

The complaint against Brown alleges that he pushed a woman down the stairs, pinned to her ground, choked her, and then pushed her out of his house.

The trainer’s attorney claims the victim broke into Brown’s house in the middle of the night. He says Brown was defending himself.

Judge Francine Vero did not believe that.

“This court is not in the business of accusing domestic violence victims,” she said.

The judge set bail at $2,500 cash, $5,000 bond.

Vero also issued an order of protection. Brown has been ordered to stay away from the victim. However, the woman works at the Saratoga Race Course. So an exception was allowed for Brown and the woman are both at the track.

Brown is an accomplished thoroughbred trainer, winning the Preakness this year with Early Voting finishing first.
