Trash fire burns on train near Amsterdam
Several local fire departments responded to a train fire overnight in Amsterdam.
The Cranesville Fire Department got a call about a train fire near state Highway 5 in the town of Amsterdam around 10:20 p.m. Thursday.
When the fire chief was arriving at the fire station, he saw the train, with four train cars on fire.
As crews were leaving the station to respond, the train started to move and travel westbound. With the help of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the fire chief was able to stop the train at the intersection of state Highway 5 and Fountain Avenue to put the flames out.
The fire chief says it was a trash fire. So there were no chemicals to worry about or anything that can harm nearby residents.
No injuries reported.
The scene is clear and state Highway 5 reopened overnight.
