Troopers kill man in Rockland County shooting

Albany Police have confirmed that the man who was killed by troopers during a Rockland County traffic stop is the suspect who was wanted in connection with a shooting earlier in the afternoon.

A man was shot in the 400 block of Hudson Avenue at around 1 p.m. The victim was taken to Albany Medical Center and is currently in critical condition.

State Police stopped a white Mercedes in the town of Ramapo just before 3 p.m. because the vehicle matched one that was seen leaving the scene of the Albany shooting.

The suspect opened fire on the troopers during the traffic stop and they discharged their weapons, killing him, police said.

One trooper had minor injuries and the other trooper was not hurt.

There is no threat to the public, according to investigators.
