There are more demands for the Burdett Birth Center in Troy to stay open.

The proposal to close the center in Troy should be rejected by the state immediately, according to Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin.

He believes Gov. Kathy Hochul should call on the state health commissioner.

McLaughlin also released a statement saying that based on the response he’s seen, there’s no need to drag out the process.

The Burdett Birth Center at Samaritan Hospital has served as the only birth center in Rensselaer County.

St. Peter’s Health Partners is looking to close the center for financial reasons.
