Five Troy firefighters are recovering after they were hurt in a training exercise on Thursday.

The seasoned firefighters were training at a facility in Colonie on Wade Road, so they could become certified as instructors.

All five firefighters have been released from the hospital following their treatment and two of them are back on the job, Fire Chief Eric McMahon said.

NewsChannel 13 also spoke with Troy Uniformed Firefighters Association Union President, Eric Wisher, who believes this cold have been prevented.

“One thing I am going to push for is for there to be an ambulance at any scene of a live burn so that there’s no delay in transport.” Wisher said. “Plus, we’d have people to provide care on the scene.”

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
