Troy Police arrest five juveniles for having illegal, loaded handguns
Troy Police Assistant Chief Steven Barker says five juveniles were arrested for possession of two illegal, loaded handguns, following a traffic stop on Wednesday afternoon.
Personnel from the police department were in the area of Griswold Heights Apartments, when they were conducting a traffic stop on Project Road near Madison Avenue.
The vehicle that officials stopped was occupied by five juveniles, which included two 17-year-olds, two 16-year-olds, and one 15-year old, said Barker.
Authorities discovered two loaded handguns during the traffic stop.
All five juveniles were arrested and transported to the department’s Youth Services Bureau for processing.
The 15-year-old was issued a youth appearance ticket and released to their guardian, and the remaining juveniles were arraigned in the youth justice system on Wednesday night, said police.
Officials say the two 16-year old and two 17-year-old individuals were each charged with one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and the 15-year-old was charged with one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of stolen property.
Police say there were no detention facilities that had space to lodge the remaining four juveniles, so they were released to their respective guardians and scheduled to appear for additional proceedings at a later date.
