Troy Police seek video footage in officer-involved shooting
Troy Police said they are looking for video surveillance footage to assist in its investigation into an officer-involved shooting. Anyone that has exterior video on 10th Street between Jacob Street and Eagle Street and Jacob between 10th and River Street is asked to contact police.
Police held a news conference on Monday afternoon.
Chief Dan DeWolf said police received a call about a man with a handgun near 10th Street and Jacob Street. Officers found a man who fit that description down the hill a couple of blocks away at Jacob and Fifth Avenue, which is off the parking lot for Bethel Baptist Church.
The suspect took off on foot when he was getting out of the car, police said. He ran down to the big parking lot south of 431 River St. There is a group of restaurants in that area, including Brown’s Brewing.
The man ran toward a loading dock and laid on the ground. They thought he was obeying their orders. He fired a handgun at police, and police returned fire and hit the suspect. He was taken to the hospital, where he is in critical condition.
The suspect’s handgun was recovered at the scene. Police would not give any more details about the type of weapon.
DeWolf said the officers that were part of that incident are out for a couple of days. He said he is grateful for the training involved and said the officers have been through a lot.
