The Troy Police Department is warning people about a phone scam in which callers pose as representing their bank.

The scammer requests personal information such as account numbers and passwords under the pretense of helping with account access or security issues, police said.

People should be careful about giving out personal information over the phone. Legitimate banking institutions will never ask for sensitive information such as account numbers and passwords in a phone call.
