Two Albany men arrested on drug and weapons charges

2 Albany men were arrested on drug and weapons charges.

During a traffic stop Saturday in the area of Lark Street and Sheridan Avenue, 35-year-old Taliem Smalls was found with a handgun partially under the driver’s seat, the Albany County Sheriff’s Office said.

After a brief struggle, Smalls was arrested while the front passenger fled on foot.

The rear passenger, 31-year-old Dario Lewis was arrested without incident.

A loaded 9mm handgun was found in the car.

Smalls was also found with 4 grams of crack-cocaine and Lewis had a digital scale containing cocaine and a live 9 mm round in his pocket.   

Smalls and Lewis are both charged with criminal possession of a weapon.

Smalls is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, obstructing governmental administration, and a series of traffic violations.

Lewis is also charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal use of drug paraphernalia.

Both are being held at Albany County jail and will be arraigned in Albany Criminal Court.
