Police: Pair had ‘ghost gun’ in vehicle with children

Albany County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Nakai Q. Hayes, 20, of Albany and Tajea N. Osorio, 18, of Schenectady, for allegedly possessing an illegal firearm and endangering an infant and a small child.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Friday around 12:45 p.m. in the area of Central Avenue and Lark Street in Albany when they discovered a semi-automatic, privately made “ghost gun” in the backseat.

Police first found a loaded firearm magazine in the vehicle’s front cup holder.

An infant and small child were sitting in the backseat of the vehicle near the illegal weapon, said Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple.

Hayes and Osorio were both charged with one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon (class C felony), two counts of endangering the welfare of a child (class A misdemeanor), and traffic violations.

They were scheduled to be arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court on Jan. 13.
