Two people hurt in Troy apartment fire

Two people were hurt in a fire at a Troy apartment complex on Wednesday.

The fire broke out around 12:15 p.m. on West Sunnyside Way near 9th Street.

The tall building posed a bit of a challenge for firefighters.

“This is a high-rise operation, so we need a team to secure the fire, to stretch hose lines to hold the fire while the other additional crew goes in and does the search. So it’s a pretty involved operation,” Troy Fire Chief Richard Cellucci said.

One woman had to be rescued from the fire, investigators said. She had burns to her legs and was airlifted to a burn unit.

A maintenance worker trying to help people escape was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, investigators said.

The flames were contained to one apartment, but there is smoke and water damage, investigators said.

NewsChannel spoke with the fire chief and several residents. We’ll have a full report starting Live at 4 and on WNYT.com.
