UAlbany expert provides insight into prisoner swap negotiations

There’s been a lot of controversy over the prisoner swap that freed WNBA star Brittney Griner – especially if the United States should have received other prisoners in return as well?

The swap that got her back home included exchanging her for a notorious Russian arms dealer. 

Many say her return should have also included the return of American Paul Whelan.

However, Brian Greenhill, Associate Professor of Political Science at UAlbany, says these negotiations are not easy – and for the United States, there may have been no other options on the table.
