State police in Chestertown have charged a couple with seven counts of animal neglect each.

Neil and Susan Duell of Horicon surrendered to police.

This started back in February, said police, when they responded to a report of an animal in the road.

When they tried to return it to the enclosure, they found several animals – including pigs, chickens and ducks –  in poor condition, police said.

The animals did not have proper access to water and food, police said.

The couple will appear in court next month.
