Washington County man gets 15 years on child pornography charges

A 35-year-old Washington County man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for possessing and distributing child pornography.

Kevin Smurphat, 35, of Whitehall, previously admitted that while on state parole in early November 2020, he used a cellphone to uploaded images of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. He also joined a group chat, where he distributed child pornography and received pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Smurphat, who is a previously convicted sex offender, must also must serve 15 years of post-release supervision and pay $7,000 in restitution to his victims.
