An overnight fire has left one person hospitalized.

Waterford firefighters were dispatched to a two-family house fire on 12 Third St. in Waterford at around 3 a.m. Sunday.

A resident was trapped inside on the 2nd floor, says Fire Chief Don Baldwin. Baldwin tells NewsChannel 13 that person was rescued from the second floor after the roof collapsed.

Investigators also say that a neighbor lent their ladder to the fire department in order to save the resident. That person was hurt and sent to the hospital. No one else was home at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No other injuries were reported.

The house is deemed to be a total loss, while the neighboring home is still habitable with only minor exterior damage.
