Watervliet is replacing traditional, high-pressure sodium or metal halide street lighting fixtures with more efficient LED lights.

The mayor says this will reduce energy consumption, and save the city and its residents is around $125,000 each year.

The city then plans to use those savings to fund the project – meaning it won’t cost the taxpayers anything.
