A weekend crash that injured a trooper and tow truck driver on the Northway in Colonie hits too close to home for friends, family and coworkers of Alex Bleickhardt.

Bleickhardt was a tow truck driver. He died in 2022 after a drunken driver hit and killed him while he was working on a broken-down vehicle.

This happened on the side of the road in Wilton near Exit 16. Bleickhardt’s former boss is pleading with the public once again to slow down and move over when they see any vehicle on the side of the road.

A law passed in 2010 requires people to slow down and move over when they see a vehicle on the side of the road.

The law passed in New York to help keep state officials, law enforcement and roadside crews safe.

That law was expanded back in May to include all drivers required to move over for any vehicle.
