Westbound I-88 lanes reopen as crews work to remove vehicle

I-88 remains closed for cleanup work

I-88 remains closed for cleanup work Wednesday morning.

The westbound lanes of I-88 have reopened as crews work to remove a tractor and trailer that crashed on Tuesday. The eastbound lanes remain closed.

State Police hope eastbound lanes will all be reopened by rush hour, they said, but it will be a tight schedule.

A tractor-trailer was traveling east, when it exited the road and traveled down a steep ravine on Tuesday. It was carrying multiple large cylinders of compressed natural gas.

The cylinders have been secured. The driver is still in critical but stable condition, police said.

Schenectady County released a statement at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday saying it has concluded its hazmat operations at the site.
