A Greenfield Center couple is celebrating a happy homecoming.

They’ve actually been waiting for that home to come to them all summer long.

It is a whole new beginning for Kevin and Karen Julius. They have a beautiful new trailer home they’ll now be able to move into – hopefully by the end of this week.

With the help of “Rebuilding Together Saratoga County”, which is part of the New York State Homes and Community Renewal Program, the Julius family was able to celebrate their brand-new home Monday, standing on the front steps, holding a green ribbon, at the Saratoga Greens Mobile Home Community.

In late April, during a powerful overnight thunderstorm, a bolt of lightning struck one of the many pine trees that once towered over their home, sending a huge portion of a tree crashing down through the roof into the living room in the middle of the night – totaling their home of 22 years.

Here is what the home looked like after a tree crushed it last April.

The Julius family said at the time that they felt fortunate to escape with their lives, and their beloved dog. They also said they knew they couldn’t afford the repairs, let alone a new home.

However, Rebuilding Together Saratoga County came to the rescue.

Now, the Kevin and Karen are grateful, appreciative, and elated, to say the very least.

“It’s great because now we have no worries,” said Karen Julius. “We got a brand-new home. We don’t have to worry about the furnace. We don’t have to worry about the heat, nothing.”

Over the next couple of days, there needs to be a propane hookup, then one final inspection and then hopefully fingers crossed by the end of this week, they’ll be able to walk through the threshold of their brand-new home.
