A woman from Saratoga Springs is getting ready to run the Boston Marathon as a fundraiser for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

Alexandra Torres has never run a marathon, but the Saratoga Springs High School grad and former standout rower, is inspired to lace up the sneakers in honor of her mother, Michele, a cancer survivor.

Alexandra works as a physician assistant at Dana Farber and is running to raise money to support all the good work being done there.

They’re holding a fundraiser from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13 at King’s Tavern on Union Avenue in Saratoga Springs. Torres hopes to raise $14,000 – every penny of which will go to Dana Farber’s Cancer Research.

The Boston Marathon is April 15.
