State Police celebrate first Black woman promoted to captain

Gov. Kathy Hochul marked a history-making promotion at the State Police headquarters in Latham on Monday.

Nine troopers were promoted. That included Lt. Trenee Young, who is the first Black woman to hold the rank of captain within the New York State Police.

The state made a pledge two years ago, promising to make at least 30% of its New York State Police recruit classes women by 2030.

Hochul was also at State Police headquarters to announce progress in the fight against retail theft rings.
