Dance studio raises money for Ukraine
Fred Astaire Dance Studios in Saratoga Springs is recognizing the one-year mark of the war in Ukraine with a donation. Co-owner Grey Masko still has family and friends in the country. The studio partnered with Dnipro Euro Deli in Latham this past January to collect clothing to help people in Ukraine dealing with a harsh winter. As a result of the month-long endeavor, 500 pounds of clothing were shipped to Ukraine.
Albany PAL helps kids enjoy winter activities
Students from the Albany Police Athletic League spent part of their February break enjoying winter activities on Lake George. Students and mentors headed to Pilot Knob to spend the day at the Capital District YMCA’s Camp Chingachgook. More than 20 kids enjoyed winter activities and worked on team building skills. The day ended with roasting marshmallows for s’mores.
St. Mary’s Nurse awarded for caring work
Amsterdam’s St. Mary’s Healthcare has awarded registered nurse Lauren Blanchard-Forker with a DAISY Award. She was nominated by the parent of a patient, who says she was one of the most caring nurses she’s ever met. The award honors the amazing work nurses do for patients and families every day.
Ballston Spa birdhouses
More than 1,000 birdhouses are ready to adorn the streets of Ballston Spa. This is the fifth year of the program, which is a centerpiece of the yearly arts initiative for the village. Participants come from all over the Capital Region to take part in the free community art project.
