Siena Athletics fundraiser to benefit food bank

Siena Athletics is teaming up with the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York to collect food and toiletries at the men’s basketball double-header this weekend. It’s Saturday and Sunday, 2 p.m. at MVP Arena. They’re looking for donations of things like soup, cereal, oatmeal, juice, shampoo, soap and toilet paper. The Saints face Niagara.

Fundraising competition

A group of 22 Capital Region students started a major fundraising competition on Thursday. The students are from schools all across the Capital Region. They’re competing for who can raise the most money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The kickoff is at 6:30 at Palette Cafe in Schenectady.

Farm bureau scholarship

High school seniors interested in pursuing a career in agriculture can now apply for the New York Farm Bureau’s Agricultural Youth Scholarship. They have the chance to win up to $3,000. You can find the application on the New York Farm Bureau website.

Niskayuna teen creates New York Times crossword puzzle

The New York Times crossword on Thursday was put together by a local high school student. The paper published the puzzle by Niskayuna High School Senior Elise Corbin. They did a Q&A with Elise. You can learn more about what inspires her in the New York Times.

Spaghetti fundraiser for Watervliet fire victims

The Watervliet community is raising money to help the victims of a fire. One of the victims is a student in the school district. The fire was on 4th Avenue last week. There’s a spaghetti dinner at Watervliet High School on Friday, Feb. 3 from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. It is $10 per person.  There will also be a raffle and a 50/50. All proceeds from the event benefit the family of the ninth grade student affected by the fire.
