Kelly’s Angels awards scholarships to high school grads

Kelly’s Angels has awarded $30,000 in scholarships to 20 local high school graduates. Each of these students is receiving $1,500 from the charity, which is devoted to helping local children and families facing loss and grief. The students being awarded have overcome significant adversity, and have shown commitment to helping others. Kelly’s Angels was started by NewsChannel 13’s Mark Mulholland in honor of his wife, Kelly, who passed away in 2007.

Healey becomes first US governor to address Irish Senate

Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey became the first United States governor to address the Irish senate. Healey, the first openly LGBTQ+ governor of Massachusetts and the granddaughter of Irish immigrants, emphasized the importance of maintaining the strong economic partnership between Massachusetts and Ireland and their shared commitment to protecting LGBTQ+ equality and civil rights. Her address marked the 30th anniversary of the decriminalization of homosexuality in Ireland.

New mural in downtown Albany

Downtown Albany’s public art display has just grown by more than 277-square feet. This is now the 20th mural in the city by artist Juliana Haliti. It is located on the main wall of the Yard Hatchet House, between Chapel Street and Sheridan Avenue. It was funded by the business. The mural was inspired by the ecological history of the Capital Region.

UAlbany honors outstanding Capital Region leaders

Dr. Jim Reed, Robert Lazar and Roberta Bernstein are the University at Albany Foundation’s 2023 Citizen Laureates. The awards honor outstanding leaders in business, government and academics who’ve helped transform the Capital Region through service and philanthropy. Reed recently retired as leader of St. Peter’s Health Partners. Lazar is the retired president of the New York State Business and Development Corporation. Bernstein, a beloved professor emeritus at UAlbany, was named academic laureate.

Kids eat free at Applebee’s on July 4

Kids eat free at Applebee’s on America’s birthday. All kids – 10 and under – can get a free kid’s meal on July 4. This is valid only for people dining in the restaurant. There are seven Applebee’s locations in the Capital Region.
