HVCC wins leadership award

Hudson Valley Community College has received two Awards of Excellence from the World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics. The Global Citizenship Award recognizes the college’s commitment to provide exemplary strategies and tools to prepare students for global citizenship. The Strategic Leadership Award recognizes the college’s creation of a STEM high school and veteran’s resource and outreach center on campus.

Galway teams headed to Odyssey of the Mind world finals

Two teams from small towns in the Capital Region are onto the Odyssey of The Mind world finals. The students are from Galway Central School District. Both teams finished third at the state finals in Syracuse last week. They’re hosting a fundraiser this Sunday, April 30, at the Cock ‘n Bull in Galway to help pay for their trip next month.

Medal for Saratoga Soundtrack Chorus

The Saratoga Soundtrack Chorus has picked up another medal. The small chorus won third place in its division at the Greater New York/New Jersey Region 15 Annual Convention and Competition. Saratoga Soundtrack Chorus is an award-winning women’s a cappella group that sings four-part harmony – performing classics and jazz to ballads and contemporary songs.

Birthday celebration for Chatham horse

There was a big birthday celebration for a horse this week in Columbia County. Sergeant York marked his 32nd birthday at the Equine Advocates Rescue & Sanctuary in Chatham. He is a retired Army Caisson horse and was the riderless horse at the funeral of former President Ronald Reagan. Sergeant York marked the occasion by enjoying a slice of birthday cake.
