Patrol Officer Jim Banish was greeted by fellow officers as he walked out of the Warren County Sheriff’s Office for the last time.

Banish was the department’s Peer Support Coordinator, offering guidance and assistance to fellow officers struggling with the emotional challenges that come with careers in law enforcement.

He also founded a nonprofit called New York LEAP – Law Enforcement Assistance Program – after he suffered from depression and PTSD after his brother, who was a state police lieutenant, took his own life.

Banish, 47, is starting a treatment center for exclusively for first responders.
