For people who are not a fan of going to the gym or joining a fitness class, there are plenty of other fun alternatives like dancing.

Experts say dancing can help improve your strength, mobility, flexibility, and balance.

Another benefit of dancing is you don’t actually feel like you are working out the way you would be at a gym. It also can be a great way to socialize with others.

“There’s also benefits for our mental health. Dancing helps to release endorphins, which are our feel-good chemicals, and they make us feel good after we exercise,” said Dr. Kellie Grabfelder of the Cleveland Clinic. “Again, it gets our heart pumping and gets us sweating, which makes us feel good afterwards. There are also benefits to our coordination and even just our memory planning.”

All types of dancing can be beneficial. However, it is important to be careful if you have trouble with your balance or are at risk of falling. Grabfelder recommended having a chair nearby for support.
