FDA approves first drug to treat liver inflammation
The FDA has approved the first drug to treat liver inflammation.
The new medication will be sold under the brand name Rezdiffra.
Liver inflammation happens when the liver becomes inflamed because of fat cells that build up, leading to scarring.
The disease is associated with obesity and Type 2 diabetes. More than six million people in the United States have the condition. There was no medication up until now.
Previous treatment focused on weight loss through diet and exercise.
Rezdiffra is expected to be available next month.
