The FDA has issued a warning about the availability of a popular antibiotic.

Federal officials say amoxicillin is in short supply as the cases of RSV increase across the country.

The drug is not used to treat RSV directly, but it can be prescribed to address secondary bacterial infections in children suffering from RSV.

The FDA says some pharmacy owners are reporting a diminished inventory of the medication, meaning manufacturers are struggling to keep up with demand.

Amoxicillin is routinely prescribed for ear infections in children, plus pneumonia and bronchitis.
